Write Back to Basics: Beginner’s Handwriting Class

Handwriting is an important life skill that can help children improve fine motor skill development, idea expression, and reading skills.  Adults find relaxation in the rhythm of writing, and can take pride in lettering neat, legible notes.  Come learn something new, or brush up on old skills.

Lessons include:  A historical overview of hand writing, warm up exercises and drills , becoming familiar with correct posture and the tools of writing, introductory basic cursive alphabet including guide sheets, understanding proportions and stroke sequence and a small lettering project at the end of each class.

When: The classes run for three weeks and are held on Tuesday, February 24th, 2015, Tuesday March 3rd, 2015 and Tuesday March 7th, 2015 from 9:30 am – 12 noon


Where: At our fabulous new location, 158 Locke Street South, Hamilton, right above Starbucks

Cost:  $85, which includes all materials, handbook with notes and samples, a basic cursive writing tool kit for you to take home, and upon successful completion students are awarded a certificate of proficiency in cursive handwriting.

Flourish Fridays: Introductory Pointed Pen Flourishing

Offhand flourishing is a style of decorating with ink and pointed pen that combines delicate, harmonious curves and embellishments with hand lettering.  Learn about the beginnings of flourishing during the Golden Age of Penmanship, and complete a simple, small project combining flourishing and lettering.

Lessons include:  A historical overview of pointed pen flourishing, brief introduction to a basic pointed pen alphabet, (guide sheet included), learning the papers, inks and tools used
understanding the importance of the compound curve, pressure /release, contrasting thicks & thins, introduction to drawing simple embellishments, called “cartouche”, including wheat, acanthus etc. and a small flourishing project at the end of each class.

When: The classes run for two weeks and are held on Friday, February 27th, 2015 and Friday March 6, 2015 from 9:30 am – 12 noon
